Often what’s fun about a new hobby is purchasing new clothing and gear to go along with this new adventure. With the economy where it is today, it is nice to know that yoga practice does not require a major purchase.
You don’t need special equipment to practice yoga. An easy to carry yoga mat and blanket will do. Most studios even have mats, blankets and props at your fingertips so you don’t need to buy them right away.
Yoga moves your body into various postures, so the more comfortable the clothing you wear, the better. Loose or stretch clothing with good ventilation such as t-shirts, tank tops, shorts, sweatpants, or leggings are ideal. Yoga is traditionally worn barefoot but you may want to bring socks for svasana (corpse pose) and pranayama.
For those of you who want to buy something new, many yoga studios sell yoga clothing and gear. Here are also some great neighborhood retail outlets to purchase yoga clothing:
• Barefoot Yoga Co. is an online store but since they are based in Seattle, they can arrange for pick-up or give you ½ price off for shipping.
• Lucy sells all sorts of workout clothing, including yoga. They are located in University Village, Redmond Town Center, and Bellevue Square. During the month of April, Lucy will donate your worn workout pants to charity and give you $10. off any regular priced Lucy bottom.
• Lululemon Athletics is in University Village and Pacific Place., as well as in Bellevue and Burlington. They offer free hemming on any apparel.
One thing you certainly will need but will never have to buy is a good attitude. Leave your street shoes at the door but always carry with you your desire to learn and grow.
