Billy Bob Thornton has brushed off bad press in the past, but this tragic incident has certainly affected him greatly and personally.
The actor's oldest daughter Amanda Brumfield has been arrested in Florida on charges of murder related to the October death of a 1-year-old girl in her care.
Thornton, 53, and Brumfield, 29, are estranged.
Arnold Robinson, Thornton's publicist, told CNN that "[he] has had no contact with her for quite some time. When informed about this situation, he commented that, 'Anytime a baby's life is lost is an unimaginable tragedy and my heart goes out to the baby's family and loved ones.' "
Brumfield was sitting for the girl when the child allegedly fell. She called police two hours later, after attempts to revive the child were unsuccessful. The autopsy found that the toddler had a skull fracture and brain injury, which led the medical examiner to rule the death a homocide. For the full story, click here.
A spokesman for the Ocoee Police Department said: "It's not believable that a one year old can balance themselves on a railing. We do believe her head hit a hard object but you would either have to fall harder or hit something with more force than a 28-inch playpen fall."
