There is a $70 billion investment from President Obama’s economic stimulus bill going towards clean energy to produce more green jobs. That bill promises to create hundreds of thousands of green jobs in the next several years right here in Colorado.
What is a green job, and why would I want one? Good questions. For one, if you don’t already have a job, that’s one good reason. The term green job, is a broad term, but think of it as any job that is environmentally friendly. From carmakers, manufactures, building infrastructure, designs, policies, and definitely technology – these entities will be re-implemented and recreated based on energy efficiency. New products, homes, appliances, materials, and quite frankly just about anything that the energy-friendly makers of the world can think of will be recreated from clean renewable energy. What are some of the clean renewable energies you ask? They are alternative energy sources that fall mostly under these categories:
Nonetheless, understand that many green jobs are jobs that many American’s already have. However, the main difference is in what companies will be doing differently with those jobs. That difference is in how they are investing in rebuilding, refueling, and repowering the world.
Colorado is already underway in reinvesting and creating Colorado into being a new energy economy. You can learn more about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act here: http://www.colorado.gov/energy/index.php?/policy/category/recovery-act/
Some just don’t believe Green jobs will make a huge difference as far as jobs are concerned. Critics argue that the amount of energy created from alternative sources that will make up the green jobs, displaces the same amount of jobs by traditional means. Basically what they are saying is that current jobs will be replaced with green jobs, and there’s no real growth in jobs. Go figure!
Regardless what you believe, just know there are now white-collar jobs, blue-collar jobs, and now green-collar jobs. He offers some great tips and you can even watch him on video explaining these steps.
