Fabre incorporates deli meat into his art in 2000.

Once again, bizarre Belgian artists are making the news today. The Associated Press reports that Jan Fabre's work "Spring is on its way", on display at Antwerp's MuHKA contemporary art museum, has become the target of complaints from a wide array of sources.

You see, Fabre's creation consists of an assortment of onions and potatoes suspended from the ceiling inside condoms. And now, the vegetables are starting to spoil. They are even bursting from their prophylactic prisons and falling to the museum floor.

Museum workers, visitors and even guards are complaining of the stench and the mess. However, the museum has made no plans to remove Fabre's work, which is still scheduled to run through the spring, only getting yuckier as it goes along. Officials have, in their magnanimity, agreed to remove whatever material falls to the floor.

"Like many of his works, it is about transformation and metamorphosis," says MuHKA's Kathleen Weyts.

Hopefully, the resulting mess doesn't result in a negative transformation and metamorphosis in MuHKA's business.

Fabre is no stranger to biodegradable artwork. In 2000, he covered the pillars of a Ghent University building in smoked ham.
