On March 12, Rosie the Riveter would have been 90. Rose Will Monroe became a cultural and feminist icon after leaving her home in Kentucky to join the World War II relief effort, leading thousands of women who entered the workforce to replace the men who left to join the military. During the war she worked at Ford motor plant, and then took huge steps toward women’s empowerment by driving a cab and opening her own beauty shop. Although Rosie died in her late 60’s after achieving her lifelong dream of piloting a plane, her “can do” spirit lives on in this new cocktail created by top mixologist LeNell Smothers.
“Rosé the Riveter” is made with Hendrick’s Gin and softened with PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur, dry rosé and a touch of honey syrup. Visually, this luscious cocktail looks delicate and dainty, belying its inner toughness---hey, kind of like Rosie herself!
Ask your bartender to make you a Rosé the Riveter using this easy to follow recipe. And on March 12th, let’s all raise a glass to the real Rosie the Riveter---may her spirit live on in American hearts forever!
