The French Kiss comes to us courtesy of Chad Dorman, VIP Elite bartender at Rainbow Lounge in Fort Worth. This cocktail is made with absinthe, a spirit which is surging in popularity since its reemergence on the bar scene several years ago. Absinthe, an anise-flavored liqueur, historically was a favorite of bohemian writers and artists until it was vilified for containing ingredients thought to have hallucinogenic properties and taken off the market in 1915. Today’s recipes are legal and absinthe free; however, a certain amount of mystique and notoriety still surround this legendary liqueur.
Here’s what Chad says about the cocktail:
The French Kiss has become one of my signature cocktails because it tastes like licorice and it makes such a great presentation. It really helps to shake up the bottle a bit first before you use it. Stirring it up activates the wormwood making it a little more potent. Ladies really like this drink, I think because its sweet without being overpowering, Sure, it’s sweet and tastes like candy, but be careful--it’s pretty strong, and one drink will just about get you there.
