Paranormal Group Profile: Tennessee Paranormal Investigations
What is your group's name? How did you choose it?
Tennessee Paranormal. I originally started the name as TN EVP (due to my strong focus being on EVP), but I felt TN Paranormal was more appropriate to cover a broader range of what our group does.
When and how did your group come into existence?
The group was established in 2005. I began it after realizing the validity in EVP and wanted to cover a broader range of paranormal phenomena.
As a group, what is your stance on the use of psychics during investigations?
I think psychics can prove beneficial in some cases. A true psychic may be able to tap into certain areas where the home/business owner can't and I've even seen some cases where they were able to communicate with the entities present.
Is your group open to the public? If so, when and where do you meet?
We are not open to the public, however the website is and members may always post an application.
Are you currently accepting new members? How many members do you have?
We are accepting new members on the TNparanormal.com website. As far as primary team members, we are always accepting applications, but only fill positions within our primary team as positions open. We function with a group of about seven investigators, but as with any group, people eventually move on or find another line of work and that is where we search through the applications we have on hand. Our website currently has over 1,000 members.
Briefly, how does your group go about conducting an investigation?
Typically, we start out with an in-depth phone interview. The home/business owner is also made aware of what to expect from us before, during and after the investigation. If an investigation is warranted, sometimes we will do a on-site inspection prior to the team arriving... other times, depending on the case, a pre-site visit isn't necessary. Upon our arrival, we will do a walk around with the owner(s), followed by a full equipment set-up and lastly, a full investigation. Depending on the case, our investigations typically run from 4 hrs to all night. Over the next couple of weeks, we thoroughly review all our collected data and then present our findings back to the home or business owner. If a cleansing is requested by the client, we will then refer the case on to another party with whom we are affiliated.
What equipment do you use?
35mm photography, digital photography, analog and digital voice recording equipment, EMF detectors, IR temp thermometers, camcorders, camcorders with IR, full DVR system with IR cameras and live monitoring station, IR illuminators, etc.
What training have your members undergone?
Those whom we decide to bring on the primary team are brought on during a trial basis, first observing on different investigations before doing any hands-on. If they are found to be hard working, knowledgeable about the subject, and enthused to be a part of the team still, we do a group vote and decide whether to bring them on and if they are a good fit.
What was your most exciting investigation, and what can you share about it? Photos? EVP? Video?
Our most recent investigation was a home residence in McMinnville TN. It has to be one of the most active locations I have ever encountered. Please check back on our website under our "evidence galleries", as I will be updating these with the EVP and video evidence captured there.
What advice do you have for someone experiencing paranormal phenomena?
First, to find out if it is in fact something paranormal nature and not something completely explainable. If it continues to be a nuisance and the home/business owner decides to seek help, to PLEASE do thorough research of their own on the group they decide to bring in to their home or business. There are many new group popping up out there, and though their intentions may be good when trying to help someone, if they don't know what they are doing they can cause even more problems for the client after they leave. They can even cause problems for themselves. I would recommend prayer for the client and to state their intentions clearly to their "resident ghost".
What advice do you have for someone wishing to become a paranormal investigator?
Do as much research on the subject as possible, know the equipment out there and how to use it correctly, read, read and read some more. If at all possible, try to a shadow a legitimate group and observe what they do. I will tell you that my organization receives MANY of these types of requests and we have allowed others to observe on a few occasions, depending on the location and the case itself.
