Now that the weather is getting colder the hot chocolate mugs are coming out. One easy recipe is it to take a cup of almond milk, stir in some unsweetened cocoa powder, and a few packets of Truvia. Just mix and heat. If you don’t like Truvia, agave nectar works too. When I’m feeing fancy I will add just a touch of nutmeg. Nutmeg just makes food taste like a holiday. Kidswithfoodallergies.org offers another diary-free hot chocolate option.
Instead of using cocoa powder to make hot chocolate you could also add Food Alchemy Ah! Laska Chocolate Syrup to your favorite non-dairy milk and heat. This syrup is free of peanuts, dairy, gluten, and sodium but not free of yumminess. It’s also a welcome addition to soy ice cream, dairy-free pies or to drizzle decadently on pancakes.
I also want to mention that this will be my last post with Examiner.com. I will be blogging for ChicagoNow, the Chicago Tribune’s blog site. My new blog is titled Chicago Eats Allergy Free: All about good food minus the most common allergens. I’m excited about not only being able to write about dairy allergies but really all of them. I’m also in some really great company including master sommelier Alpana Singh and journalist/spiritual writer Jennifer Weigel.
I have met so many wonderful people through this blog and I really had a great time writing it. I’d like to think there’s enough room for all of us bloggers, while I encourage you to follow me to my new home I also encourage you to enjoy some of the other allergy-free Examiners.
