A video called “Did You Know?” has been circulating on YouTube for several months now.  It has been especially popular for executive conferences for major corporations like Sony BMG.  At the Area 2 Chaplain Annual Sustainment Training (CAST) Conference, it was used to challenge the Chaplain Corps to engage with the major implications of globalization.

You can find the video in full here.  It is a must-see for everyone!

The data and research it has compiled and creatively presented is compelling evidence of a major acceleration in the exchange of ideas, values, and culture across the world.  In other words, our world is shrinking at an increasingly fast rate.  The implications are too numerous to be listed here, but it is vitally important that the church consider these cultural developments if we are to remain (or gain) relevancy to a culture that is leaving us behind.

How does the accelerating exchange of information and ideas affect your congregation’s willingness and ability to sit in Sunday school?

How do iPhones, Facebook, and Twitter impact the attention spans of your audience while preaching?

How can you take advantage of technological resources to cast a compelling vision for renewal in your city?

In what ways can technology take away from the valuable traditions and ancient feel to an historical faith?

How might technology be leveraged in God’s mission to bless your neighbor? To bring his Word to people of every tribe and tongue?

With technology having a strong entertainment element, how do you retain the interest of a consumerist culture with strong (and often sinful) expectations?

How might you find compelling avenues in reaching culture in the midst of this “Information Age?”

What does it look like for the church to be creating culture in this arena, instead of just mimicking or copying culture from other sources?

For more info: For all things "cultural engagement," check out the blog "Culture Making" and the book by the same title by Andy Crouch.  Both are amazing resources.
