A recent New York Times column about Word Warp reminded me of how awesome word-assembling games are. In Word Warp, you rearrange six letters into as many words as you can. The problem is that it's an iPhone app, and I could not afford an iPhone if someone paid me fifty bucks a month to use it. What I can afford is free online games.

Flashgames247.com to the rescue! The site offers a ton of word games, with a wide range of quality, but one I can recommend unreservedly. 8 Letters in Search of a Word uses the same premise as Word Warp, only with eight letters. You have to reach a particular score within a certain time limit to pass through to the next level. Every five levels, you get a bonus board that gives you a lot of points if you can unscramble the eight-letter word. The game runs well and moves along quickly; you don't get frustrated looking for that last three-letter word to finish a board.

One of the most unusual features of this game is its, shall we say, expansive dictionary. I mistyped the word COUNT and discovered that the word list contains more than most word games do. Enjoy!
