They love your bags and they love their new terms. After rejecting the new contract put forth this summer, the 5,900 pilots at Southwest Airlines, represented by the Southwest Airline's Pilots Association (SWAPA) approved a new five-year agreement. The terms of the contract includes a pay increase, a 401K contribution increase, and changes in scheduling.
Union spokespeople expressed satisfaction with the agreement, though they also claimed to be 'looking forward to' a chance to renegotiate compensation in 2011. Southwest agreed on terms with almost all other employee divisions earlier this year.
Southwest CEO Gary Kelly said the contract rewarded pilots for helping the company earn a profit the past two years. But, he said, the deal was also "in keeping with the current uncertain economic outlook."
Does anyone else find it surprising that a company that is making money has happy employees?
