It wasn’t long ago that atheism was considered to be the least popular minority one could belong too. Atheism was even less popular than homosexuals and even Muslims after 9/11. Oh wait, atheism is still the least popular minority there is in America. But all that is starting to change.
Recently, big name popular celebrities like Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt have come out of the atheist closet. It is encouraging that one of the most popular television shows on the Fox Network centers around an atheist doctor (House M.D.) and is played by an openly atheist actor (Hugh Laurie). Even Jon Stewart has publicly admitted on his Daily Show with Jon Stewart, that he too doesn’t believe in a god.
As more and more of these big named popular celebrities start coming out of the atheist closet, the perception of atheism will start to change. The big question is which big name celebrity will admit to a lack of belief in a god next? Will politicians finally start growing a backbone and admit to a lack of belief too? After all, if politicians like Sarah Palin and Anna Falling can run campaigns based on how fundamentally godly they are, why can’t politicians like Brad Pitt run campaigns centering on their lack of belief in the unreasonable?
So the challenge is out. Calling all celebrities and politicians, come out of the atheist closet!!!
