There are a variety of options when it comes to dressing up your windows - blinds, shades, sheers, panels, drapery, etc.
Window type and personal design style will help dictate what will work best for you. However, once you decide what type of treatment you want to put on your window, the decision making process does not end there.
Let’s take a closer look at drapery length options. There are a variety of lengths that you can use to dress up a window with drapery fabric. Here are some of the standard lengths.
1. Valance: For a panel that will be used as a top treatment or valance, the panel should be between 10” – 20” depending on the window size.
2. Sill Length: This is a good option for a window that is recessed or not flush with the wall, a window above furniture, or a treatment that will be opened frequently. However, this length can make the window seem shorter and detract from the architectural feature of the window.
3. Apron Length: Ideally, an apron treatment should fall about 4” below the sill.
4. Café Length: The fabric panel typically covers the bottom half of the window. This style offers privacy and allows light in at the same time. Often seen in kitchens, it has a traditional country feel to the design of it.
5. Floor Length: Draperies should fall about ½” above the floor. This more formal style elongates the window and can visually make the window feel larger.
6. Extra Long Puddle Length: Add an additional 6-10” of length to the floor length which can be arranged on the floor. This is not recommended for high traffic areas.
