The summer months are coming and it is time to look around your space to see what minor adjustments you can make to welcome the warmer weather - and hopefully a breezier lifestyle. These decorating updates do not have to take a lot of time or effort and certainly do not need to be very expensive.
Here are several things you can do in your own home to “summer-ize” your decor.
1. Adding mirrors to your space will open it up and make the space feel more spacious. Hang the mirror across from a window to take advantage of the natural light and bounce it around the room.
2. Remove any heavy curtains and replace them with lighter drapes or sheers. This will make the space feel lighter and brighter.
3. Add a swing to your backyard. This DIY project will add an old-timey vibe and some nostalgic fun summer swinging too! Make your own or buy a swing, then mount it to a sturdy tree limb, and swing the afternoon away.
4. Remove any clutter that has accumulated over the winter months. When it’s cold outside, we want to be cozy inside; however, now that they temperature is rising, it’s time to clear out the space to bring in a breezy, open feel.
5. Take off that heavy bedspread and replace it with a lightweight cover or blanket.
6. Move your furniture around to create a new vibe and flow in your space. Try to take advantage of any natural light coming into the room.
7. Lighten any dark furniture with crisp, clean slipcovers. Also stow away any throw blankets or quilts you used when cuddling on the sofa through those chilly months.
8. Revitalize your furniture with a splash of bright pillows. Pillows are really low commitment so be creative and daring with your choices.
9. Replace any dark light shades with new, white ones. This will really change the lighting vibe in your space and make everything feel new and bright.
10. Add bright colored accessories. As I’ve discussed before, I currently love yellow, but there are a lot of bright, colorful accessories available for any room that will help add a punch of color and bright pop of summer to your space.
