Some residents of metro Atlanta had a better Thanksgiving Day because of Ludacris, Big Boi and Akon. The trio gathered at South Cobb High School in Austell two days before the holiday to give away over 2000 turkeys and other treats to families whose lives were altered by the floods that ravaged Cobb County and other parts of Georgia in early October.
The Ludacris Foundation partnered with Akon's Konfidence Foundation and Big Boi's BigKidz Foundation to combine resources. Akon's group brought in 1000 turkeys to meet the demand, while Big Boi's team added more volunteers to keep the crowd moving smoothly.
The 'Word of Mouf' rapper made news a few weeks ago for giving away over 500 coats to the flood-damaged Clarksdale Elementary School. The coat drive drew national attention and sparked donations to the school from all over the country. In early October, he teamed up with T.I. and other members of the hip-hop community to raise $115, 000 for Georgia flood survivors.
“Just call me LudaFEMA,” he said, on Atlanta’s 11Alive news, interjecting his trademark sense of humor.
Big Boi added, “We make music and take care of home.”
Atlanta Mayoral candidate Kasim Reed was also present at the event. Ludacris held a fundraiser for Reed at his Midtown restaurant, Straits. Reed faces Mary Norwood in a runoff election, December 1.
On a more serious note, Luda had this to say about his philanthropic causes, “I do it for the simple fact I want people to feel loved.”
We’re weeks away from yet another Ludacris event: LudaCrismas - dates for this anticipated toy giveaway are coming soon.
