Telltale's Tales of Monkey Island: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal is an outstanding revival of classic adventure gaming and should be at the top of every adventure-game lover's list.
Having finally completed the game, I can say that it's every bit as charming, funny, entertaining, and enjoyable from the moment it begins until the final puzzle is solved, leaving you with a cliffhanger and begging for more.
The entire game lasts about 2-4 hours, depending on your adventure-gaming prowess. The puzzles are clever and require some creative "adventure game" thinking from time to time, but they never feel ludicrously beyond logic (a common pitfall for the genre) and leave you banging your head against a wall.
Actually, you may find yourself clicking on a lot of things simply to hear the amusing dialog that follows. The dialog and voice-acting are all top-notch. The visuals are excellent, although not quite the lavish style of "painted" graphics fans of the older series may remember. Regardless, the move into 3D has treated Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Pirate (TM) well.
Tales of Monkey Island deserves a spot on every adventure gamer's shelf, and fans of the original series can rest easy knowing that their beloved series is in capable hands.
Overall Score:
[Don't forget that The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition -- the remastered version of the original game with all new graphics and audio -- will be available July 15th.]
