The Child's Play Charity brings games, movies, and toys to sick kids and their families. It's off to a strong start -- but it still needs your help.
Seattle Children's Hospital -- and Children's Hospitals in general -- treat many children for deadly diseases and traumatic injuries. Many -- if not most -- of these children spend significant amounts of time hooked up to machines and facing a constant barrage of needles, tests, and treatments.
| I'm going to briefly break with "journalistic practices" here -- as a father who has had his children in the Seattle Children's Hospital more than once (thankfully for non life-threatening illnesses), I've experienced first hand the fear, anxiety, and frustration that affects seriously ill children and their families. |
The fine folks at Children's Hospitals do the best they can to minimize the fear and anxiety of their patients and their patient's families. No child wants to be cooped up, poked, prodded, pierced, tested, and alone. And nothing is more painful to a parent than watching their children suffer.
The video games, movies, and toys you can donate to Child's Play go directly to the Children's Hospital of your choosing. All you have to do is go to the Child's Play Web site, select the hospital in your area, and you can go directly to that hospital's Amazon Wish List and purchase items on their behalf. Most of the items are toys, games, video games, game systems, and other comforts any kid in a hospital bed would appreciate -- and there are many items less than $20.
Games, movies, and toys won't make a child better, but they are one of the few escapes a child and their family can enjoy during a stressful hospital stay. It's a worthy cause and the proceeds go directly to the people that need them. If you can find a few bucks to donate to a worthy cause, visit the Child's Play Web site (link below), click on a state, and select the hospital you'd like to make a gift donation to.
Although you may never hear it, many, many children and their families will be thankful for your contribution.
