Story Upate: FEAR 2 is still banned, but Warner Bros. Interactive confirmed that the company will be appealing the Classification Board's decision and pursuing "all avenues" so Project Origin can be released in Australia.
There are plenty of reasons to pity Australian gamers. After all, they live in a country with a much higher statistical probability of getting eaten by a crocodile, eaten by a shark, bitten by a deadly snake, or run over by a herd of kangaroos.
Add game bannings to that list of suck.
FEAR 2: Project Origin has now been added to the list of games banned in Australia -- a list that also includes Silent Hill: Homecoming, Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, Dark Sector, and Fallout 3 (Note: Fallout 3 and Dark Sector were eventually allowed to be sold after content modifications.)
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin has been 'refused classification' in Australia by the local Classification Board. The highest rating a game in Australia can receive is MA15+. Games featuring content that is considered 'unsuitable' for an MA15+ rating are refused classification -- which makes the game illegal to sell or even bring a a copy of the game into the country.
