Not only children come trick-or-treating, sometimes they bring their own four legged friends with them. Many times the family dog comes out on Halloween with the family but there usually aren’t too many treats for the dogs. Have some homemade dog biscuits or some store bought snacks in another bowl near the door and treat your dog neighbors, after asking the owners approval first. Here is a recipe that your trick-or-treating dogs may like.

Beef flavored dog biscuits

2 cups whole wheat or all purpose flour
1 cup cornmeal
¼ cup wheat germ
2 teaspoon beef bouillon powder
1 large egg
1 tbs. cooking oil
1 cup hot water

Mix ingredients in a medium bowl. Stirring well, dough may be dry. Roll out on a well-floured surface to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into Halloween shapes with special dog biscuit cutters or cookie cutters or shape them by hand. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake on center rack of oven at 275 degrees for about 2 hours until dry and very hard. Let stand overnight to dry thoroughly. Recipe makes 10 big bones and 14 puppy bones.

Tip:

Wrap a cooked and cooled dog biscuit in a special small Halloween decorated bag and hand it to the dog owner to give to the dog later.

Tip:

Have a Halloween party for humans which is also pet friendly and make a tray of these dog biscuits for the visiting k-9 party goers.

Dogs will not really know the shape of the biscuit as a Halloween shape but it makes the night more fun for kids and adults as well. Dogs will however enjoy the rich meaty taste and crunch of these homemade treats. Have fun with your dogs this Halloween!
