From Thanksgiving until after New Year’s, Longwood Gardens is famous for its Christmas display. When you visit this 1040-acre attraction you’ll find the outside trees are strung with 400,000 tiny lights throughout the gardens. Visitors love the lighted fountain shows where colors, music and dancing waters combine to create a lovely spectacle. There are special holiday menus at the restaurants while the gift shop is filled with tempting presents for all tastes. A special treat is the ice skating shows which may require separate tickets.
If it’s cold outside visit the indoor area of the magnificent four-acre conservatories which are all part of A Longwood Gardens Christmas. The main hall here is abloom with poinsettia plants, wreaths and decorations. In the ballroom there is sure to be an organ recital as well as choral groups who add their voices to the holiday music. And of course there is plenty of time to visit the orchids and other exotic plants that reside here all year round. In addition, there is a special children’s garden and plenty of places for kids to explore.
In anticipation of the popularity of A Longwood Gardens Christmas, admission will be by Timed Ticket only, with tickets issued for specific dates and times. Timed Tickets limit the number of people in the Gardens at any given time, and enable guests to enjoy minimal lines and a better viewing experience. Once inside you can stay as long as you want, although most visitors spend about three hours at the Gardens.
A Longwood Gardens Christmas is available daily from November 26, 2009 to January 10, 2010. Timed Tickets allow entry during half-hour intervals throughout the day and evening. The last admission is sold approximately 30 minutes prior to closing
