Proving once again why it remains one of THE coolest places in Orlando, Enzian Theater (and Eden Bar) are hosting two nights of great events sure to induce thought provoking conversation and a treat for your eyes, ears, taste buds, and wallets. Always bridging fun with social relevancy, Enzian brings you an Industry Night with local artists (Wednesday) and a night of political discussion with the film Outrage, which looks at the rampant hypocrisy of gay politicians as they actively participate in the anti-gay movement.
Since its debut, Eden Bar has proudly showcased local artists and up-and-coming musicians. A great patio seat and a delicious beverage (courtesy of great drink specials), SESSIONS at Eden Bar is one of the best places in town to catch good live music. SESSIONS is free to attend and happy hour drink specials include $4 Mojitos, Caipirinhas, Cuba Libre, and Arnold Palmers. Additionally, guests with table reservations receive 50% off a bottle of wine and can also indulge themselves in Eden Bar's dinner menu. This week's show starts at 730 pm and features music by Ben Wright, Sam Lafferty, and Mike Foreman. Mojitos on a cozy patio with live music may be the best thing to happen this summer so get there early to grab a good seat.
For those documentary lovers and/or interested in the Gay Right Movement (or for those who just want to see a brilliant film), Outrage is a can't miss look into the secret lives of America's politicians who are a large part of the anti-gay movement; who scrutinize the lives of the LGBT community by day and yet live amongst and inside of it by night. Called "Incendiary!" by Rolling Stone and dubbed a "must see" by About. com, this film , by Academy Award Winner Kirby Dick, gets your mind thinking, your pulse racing, and fuels any anger one might have toward government hypocrisy and the uphill battle the LGBT community faces daily. Showtimes for the film are Wednesday, June 24 and Thursday, June 25 at 630 pm and 9 pm. (Ticket prices are $10/adult, $8/student, $7.50/Enzian Theater member)
Those interested in a meeting of the minds should attend the Artistic Responsibility vs. Sensationalism discussion at 8 pm on Thursday, June 25. Featuring Commissioner Patty Sheehan, Sentinel staff writer Scott Maxwell, local filmmaker Eric Breitenbach and director of Central Florida Log Cabin Republicans Patrick Howell, the discussion will involve reactions and opinions about this groundbreaking new film. This discussion is free to attend.
Enzian brings something exciting to its patrons on a daily basis and while these two events happen to be fun, interesting, and a bit captivating, they are just the icing on the cake of what Enzian Theater and Eden Bar offer the local community. Come for the music, stay for the movie, or vice versa. Either way a night at the theater is a night well spent.
