Something around every corner

With so much to do in and around the Orlando/Central Florida area this weekend the only question you'll have is "What should I do first?" Everything from Blues Festivals to "Bake Sales" is happening this Friday through Sunday. Don't sit home and let the afternoon showers give you a case of seasonal depression, get up, get out, and be a woman (or man) about town at any or all of these local events.

1) Mount Dora Blues and Wine Festival - Known for its beautiful scenery and delicious local restaurants, Mount Dora has been a favorite among locals for a very long time. Why not come out and celebrate the area with a little bit of the Blues and a little (or a lot) of wine? This amazing combination only happens once a year so be sure to come out for free sampling of wines, live music by The Smokin' Torpedoes, T Scott TropRockers with blues harmonica player Greg "Fingers" Taylor, Apple Mary Blues, Miss Jacqueline Jones, Beautiful Bobby Blackman, Ruth King Blues and Recent Money Blues Band Jam.  For lovers of live music and a palate for vino, there is no better place to head this weekend. The festival runs from Friday, May 29 - Sunday, May 31. Bring youur lawn chair or blanket, this event happens rain or shine.Tickets are $48 (3 day passes), $38 Saturday, $18 Sunday.

2) Bake Sale - The Peacock Room is one of the coolest bars in town. Always bringing fun artwork to the local forefront and always keeping a fresh stock of great DJs, The Peacock Room continues to tempt patrons into pulling up a plush ottoman, ordering a drink, and taking it all in. This Friday is no different. The "Bake Sale" takes place this Friday and those interested should know there is a theme for this event that includes wearing scout attire (Cub or Girl). Put on your knee highs and your sash and get ready to earn your badge of coolness as you hang to the beats of DJ Mot, Ken Sherry and Sleazy McQueen. Cover is $5, the fun starts at 10 pm.

3) Winter Park Farmer's Market 30th Anniversary - For the past 30 years, Winter Park has been hosting one of THE best Farmer's Markets around town. Opening in 1979 with only eight vendors, the market now boasts ten times that many vendors and is arguably the most popular market in town. City officials will kick-off the festivities at 9 a.m. on the steps of the farmers’ market (200 West New England Avenue). The day's events include door prizes, games, face painting and a "Dress to Impress Dog Show." The event starts at 9 am and, as always, is free to the public.

4) Lita Ford - If you peaked in the '80s, if you learned every word to "Close My Eyes Forever," if you still get drunk and scream the words to "Kiss Me Deadly" as if they were your autobiography, Saturday night is your night. Lita Ford, one of the original princesses of rock, is headlining at Club Firestone. Tickets are $25 in advance, $28 at the door.

5) Matisyahu - On a completely different spectrum than Ms. Ford, Matisyahu came onto the scene 5 years ago and won over rap and reggae fans alike in a matter of months. The Hacedic Jewish, reggae-rapper is teaming up with Les Claypool for a night of music at House of Blues( Sunday, May 31). This show will undoubtedly be entertaining and amazing given Matisyahu's track record ( two critically acclaimed albums, ridiculous video play on MTV, and the ability to crossover to so many different audiences). $32 gets you in,  but I have a feeling this show will be priceless.

Also, happening this weekend, the Orlando Magic bring it back home for Game 6. If you can't get tickets to the game, hit the watch party that is always happening at Wall St. Love going downtown but sports isn't your thing? Never fear. Orlando Pub Crawl is back with The Rockstar and Groupie Pub Crawl. Dress up like your favorite rock star or your favorite "band-aid" for a night of drinking and debauchery throughout downtown Orlando. You will get entry to four bars and 1 free Miller Lite or Bacardi cocktail at every bar and $2 Miller Lites and $3 Bacardi cocktails all night. ($10 in advance, $15 at the door).

There is literally something to do around every corner of Greater Orlando this weekend. If this short list doesn't help you, you may want to stay in and call it a day.
