Times are tough but why should your passion for the arts suffer? If you're an avid museum go-er or theatre fanatic, it may be hard to justify a day at the gallery in this "recession;" but, don't throw in the towel just yet because a few local venues have some exhibits for little or no fee. After all, art is beauty and beauty shouldn't have a price.
Giving you more than just amazing sandwiches and cupcakes, Pom Pom's Teahouse is playing host to entertainer extraordinaire Miss Sassy Devine and her Art Repurposed exhibit. Displaying her artsy side while showing what beauty can be made from everyday recyclables, Sassy Devine will display her original work on opening night, Wednesday, May 13 at 9 pm for Orlando art lovers to see. If you happen to miss opening night; never fear, the works will be displayed all month long...for free! While you are there please take advantage of the amazing food and tea Pom Pom's has to offer.
The2009 Fringe Festival kicks off this Thursday, May 14, and offers up 12 days of 100% uncensored theatre, dance, music, and art. While you can purchase a Fringe button for $8 to gain access to the shows, each show is priced separately ($5-$10). However, don't let the monetary guilt get you; the Fringe Festival is the only local festival in which 100% of the proceeds go directly to back to the artists. For 17 years the Fringe Festival has brought out the most talented of local and international artists to the delight of local theatre fans, leaving no question as to why the Orlando Fringe is the longest running Fringe Festival in history. Whether you're a fan of improv or dance, the 18th Annual Fringe Festival has it all. As if the shows alone weren't enough to convince you, the festival also has a beer tent (including liquor this year) featuring delicious libations as well as fair food for your munching pleasure. Come out and support the arts 100%.

I know this "recession" is hurting everyone's wallets but there are cheap (or free0 things to do around town if you search hard enough. I also know that a real love for art is a passion and it can be an expensive habit and I hope these cheap ideas will help all the art and theatre lovers out there. Talent is priceless so support the arts in whatever way you can.
