Day six of the 40th Annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival saw large crowds descend upon the Fairgrounds for an amazing day of music. I spent much of my day in the Economy Hall Tent. The New Orleans - Helsinki Connection featured native New Orleanian Tricia "Sister Teedy" Boutte who now lives in Norway. Also featured in the tent were Treme Brass Band & Preservation Hall Jazz Band both of which are staples at the Festival and always a crowd favorite.
Of course, variety is a spice of life and there were plenty of other stages to visit. Saturday featured three bands that I rarely (if ever) get a chance to see outside of New Orleans. The New Orleans Klezmer Allstars brought their mix of Klezmer music and New Orleans soul to the Fais Do-Do Stage. Midnight Disturbers, a brass band formed by Stanton Moore and Kevin O'Day closed out the Jazz & Heritage Stage with a blistering set. The New Orleans Bingo! Show has got to be seen and heard to be believed. This talented ensemble of musicians and vaudeville entertainers led by Clint Maedgen beautifully blends old and new styles. If you're lucky, you might even get BINGO!
