I wrote about Firehook previously. Their second Old Town location is on Washington St. and this one definitely deserves a visit.
Firehook on Washington boasts all of the delicious goodies that the chain is famous for, including an array of deli sandwiches for people in a lunchier mood. The staff is fantastic. Just try to not elicit a big smile and friendly “Good morning” from the ladies behind the counter. They make a mean mocha and the coffee makes up for a lack of creativity by being consistent. They even replaced a large soy latte when an inconsiderate beagle knocked it from my hand in the parking lot.
There is not a great deal of seating but there is usually room to spread out to work and I have never seen the café at full capacity. The location does not lend itself to a great deal of foot traffic but it is just a few blocks off King Street, on busy Washington St.; hardly a deviation from the beaten path. You have to keep an eye out for the cute yellow building nestled back among townhouses-turned-businesses, behind a 5 car parking lot, but looking is worth the effort for this better-than-Starbucks treat. .jpg)
