Like him or loathe him, Lance Armstrong is back. And he may be back next year according to a brief interview he gave after finishing 3rd in the 9th stage of the Tour de France on Sunday.
According to the Associated Press Armstrong could be setting his sites on nine Tour wins, as he hinted he could be back for another shot at it next year.
“Probably not,” Armstrong was quoted as saying on French TV after being asked if this was his last. “Maybe one more Tour.”
Armstrong is still going strong, remaining in 3rd place after the 121-mile 10th stage on Tuesday. An element of suspense was added to this stage, as organizers banned earpieces which forced the competitors to ride without radio instructions from their team cars.
When asked how he felt about riding without technology Armstrong joked,
“I can’t hear anything; I don’t know anything…..I feel naked. I think it’s a lot to do about nothing.”
The riders will be without earpieces again in the 13th stage of the race, which is a difficult stage with one massive climb and many attacks.
But it doesn’t look like it will stop Armstrong from going for the yellow this year, or even next….
