Take a deep breath and feel great. How transformational breathing is transforming lives.

To breathe seems like one of the most basic things we do, but the truth is that most of us don’t take the time to breathe in a way that gets us the full amount of oxygen we need to feel good.  I was recently introduced to a technique called “transformational breathing.”  It is the art of learning to consciously and deliberately breathe in a way that utilizes a full relaxed breath.  The breath originates in the lower abdomen and repeats the inhalation and exhalation without pausing.  Transformational breathing experts will tell you that often times we hold our breath to avoid feeling. The shallowing breath not only makes it more physiologically difficult to get oxygen to our cells but the pattern can trap those feelings in places our subconscious may only be aware of.  Breath work releases these emotions and often times releases the physical ailments associated with them.  For example, a woman I know named Suzanne who practices transformational breathing weekly, told me about a time when she was going through a very confusing time in her life.  Her career, her relationships and her purpose was being challenged.  She developed a rather stubborn case of eczema on her eye lids.  During the transformational breathing sessions, she clawed at the space above her eyelids (activation during a breathe session removes most inhibitions) and sobbed “I can’t see, I can’t see”. This release of the pent up emotion surrounding her confusion in her life was being manifested in her diseased eyelids.  She said the breath work resulted in complete disappearance of the eczema the next morning.  Of course I had to try this transformational breathing for myself, so I went to a free class in Naples.  While I didn’t have the break-through that Suzanne had, I did have experience one of the most relaxing things I’ve done in a long time.  It was about 45 minutes of just focusing on me and my breathing and learning to take in big amounts of oxygen and exhale longer than I thought imaginable.  It left my hands and legs feeling tingly, and my mind feeling pretty energized.   You’ve heard of all of those oxygen bars out in L.A. where you have to pay for oxygen, well, save your cash, proper breathing will give when you all of the oxygen you want for free.  I’ve included a link to the Transformational Breath Foundation for more information.
