Training camp hasn't even started yet and South Florida is all over the national headlines.

It's not good new for USF football.

By now, most have heard about the accident at Busch Gardens this past weekend involving Maikon Bonani, the popular place kicker who was the star of the 37-34 win over Kansas last season. It was that great kick of his that provided USF with its best win of the 2008 campaign.

Bonani was injured when he fell 35 feet from a Skyride gondola. He worked as a ride attendant. He feared a gondola door was not shut and when he tried to shut it, the gondola has started its trip out of the loading area with Bonani clinging to the door.

He survived the fall and is today still recovering from what is described as a cracked T-12 vertabrae.

Bonani's accident is major news on AOL and ESPN.

It is now wait-and-see for him. There's a good chance he might not play this season. If that is the case, then USF will be a weaker football team without him.
