How Facebook is like sex with Sting
Let’s just say you’re a business owner and you’ve made your way out of the lead cave and decided it’s time to make your company a Facebook page. You’re feeling pretty good about yourself now that you’ve modernized your marketing strategy and put your business in an aisle seat on the social media bandwagon.
What next? Unless you’re a 17 year old girl you probably don’t fully understand what Facebook can do for you or how it can impact your business. Actually … I take that back … I don’t think that even a 17 year old girl knows just how Facebook can impact your bottom line. Let’s assume for the moment that you’ve set the page up with all the necessary contact information and a nice overview of what your company does. Sweet…before you fill out your deposit slip for all the money you are going to make you might want to make sure your Facebook page does more for you.
Your first order of business is to gather your audience. This is actually a little more difficult than you might think…it’s not terribly complicated but it can be time consuming. I advocate hiring someone to directly invite people to be your fans … this is kind of like sex with Sting (it never ends). All of your advertising should not only let people know that you are on Facebook but also give them a reason (WIFM) on why they should become fans. Reasons can be time saving apps, money saving offers or important information on new (or old) products.
Let’s also build links from your Facebook page to your website and visa versa. That content flow will help your search status and assist in making your digital footprint a dynamic one. RSS blog feeds don’t suck either… this will drive more search than an amber alert.
It’s important that you keep your Facebook page current, vibrant and compelling. Think of your Facebook page as a web site with ears and a mouth (that just happened). Speak to your peeps and more importantly listen to what they are telling you. Humans are all about getting social with it and if you can make your business part of the conversation then you are going to be successful with your social media strategy.
