Santa Fe and The Fat City horns are one of my favorite local bands to watch perform here in Las Vegas. They perform every Monday night at 10:30 pm at The Palms Hotel and Resorts.
Santa Fe is a very unique band with a 6 piece horn section, an 8 piece rhythm section and four lead singers. Their sound takes you back to classic bands we've all heard growing up, with their sound being full of soul, funk, pop and smooth jazz. They cover a lot of famous acts such as Earth, Wind and Fire and even perform a lot of their original pieces.
The band was founded by lead singer and guitarist Jerry Lopez, who has performed with the likes of Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony and Bill Champlin just to name a few. He performs alongside his brother Lenny Lopez as the only two original members of the band that was formed under the name Los Hermanitos Lopez y la Compania in 1970. Lenny was only 12 years old at the time.
Dave Richardson is the lead keyboardist originally from Pittsburgh, PA. He writes a lot of Santa Fe's original music such as "Greasy Thing" performed by Lenny Lopez. Dave's musical resume is thick with accomplishments such as working with Lorenzo Antonio and Sparx, jazz saxaphonist Rick Margitza, local performer Clint Holmes and many others. You can read more about Jerry, Lenny, Dave and the other members, as well as purchase CD's and listen and view samples by visiting their website www.santafeandthefatcityhorns.com.
If you're looking for some great local entertainment that wont put a dent in your wallet (entry is free at both venues, all you have to worry about is jamming out and buying your drinks!), come and see Santa Fe and The Fat City Horns perform on Mondays at The Palms! We may run into each other there as they are, by far, my favorite local band to date!!!
Note: The band was also playing Saturday nights at Palace Station at midnight but due to the economy and cut backs, they are solely playing at The Palms. Hopefully with a few inquiries to Palace Station, we could get them back there as well?!?!? Doesn't hurt to ask!!
