I know what you're saying.....you're a Concert Tours Examiner....why are you writing about Michael Jackson's This Is It? Isn't that a movie? My answer to you is yes....and no.

Being a HUGE MJ fan dating back to as early as 7 years old, and being as old as I am now (in which shall remain unmentioned, thank you!), you would have thought I had seen at least one King of Pop concert in my day....live. The fact of the matter is that I have not. Seeing This Is It was like that concert experience that I definitely regret never experiencing, especially after his untimely passing. What made this experience ten times better was that it felt as if I had a private, back stage pass in seeing this icon at work. Almost as if he invited me personally, and asked me to watch his every move and pitch, as he constructed what was promised to be one of his best performances yet.

Everyone has seen MJ doing his thing in videos, concerts, etc, but no one has ever witnessed what effort and attention to detail he puts into making his shows absolutely flawless. The things that a normal entertainer would be able to overlook, MJ dissected with a surgeon's instrument. From pitches in the music, to movement on the stage and the volume in his ear piece. This gentle speaking soul could even be seen at times, demanding that his team get things perfectly and with a stern voice, without being overbearing.

His new take on his classics such as Thriller, with an entire revamping of the lay out and dancers dressed in scary costumes was amazing. His take on The Way You Make Me Feel, with a West Side Story type of feel appeal to it was absolutely genius. And my favorite of all, his moves to Billie Jean. It's something about that foot back switching thing that almost looks like the old school dance called the Pac Man (remember that dance?) that makes me want to stand up and immolate it! I wanted to in the theater, but figured I'd spare my Mother the embarrassment.

This collection of rehearsals and preparation made you feel whole and at one with the King of Pop again, and when the film was complete, you hadn't really noticed that you'd been in his trance for about two hours, and still longing to see more and more and more.

This man was ahead of his time. At the tender, yet ripe age of 50, his voice was in top form, his moves were raw and crisp, and his dedication to his art was indescribable. How could a man at this level that was shown in this film be gone from us? There was nothing wrong with him. But it is not my place to go into detail about that. My fellow Examiners that do such an awesome job at covering this journey have and will keep us all up to speed in this area. As for me? Your Concert Tours Examiner; I say see this film and get that concert experience from Michael that you may have never gotten, or thought you had until you've dedicated two hours to this wonderful masterpiece. A last look at the legend of MJ. Rest in peace my friend as we all share the thoughts of one of your greatest songs.....Gone Too Soon.
