Bustdog Millionaires
1 of the 7 says- The author is not a "less"-on, he is a MORON. Do at least a 'little' research first, buddy.
A complete waste of time to read. If it was on paper instead of a PC screen, I would have wiped my ass with it.
NSE Replies- 1 of the 7 what???? Are there really six more like you??? Am I going to have to respond to them too??? What exactly what would you like me to research??? My opinion??? Checked it. It still tells me that Oden is a bust, along with everyone else that I mentioned. It also tells me that while Yao Ming is, (or can be), a potent offensive player and the best passing center in the league, that he is NOT the type of dominant player that you would expect a guy that goes 7-6, 310 lbs to be. Like it or not, Yao doesn’t intimidate anyone.
Less-on….Moron???? Oh, I get it. What a clever play on words.
Now, here is a suggestion for you: Print the damn thing out and go wipe your ass with it. I hope that you get a paper cut on your sphincter. I just hope that you don’t cut your scalp in the process.
By the way, if you’d like to see where I got my information, keep reading. There are links throughout this column that support my position.
Don says- This has to be the least researched article in the very poor history of journalism. Speculation about a disease that no doctor (and he's been examined by plenty of them) has ever diagnosed is poor guesswork at best, and lazy journalism at worst.
Furthermore, if the author would have done any research, he would have noted that in those games where Oden played more than 20 minutes, he was a very effective force, a game changer. For well over the latter half of the season, Greg remained injury free.
The real problem here is one that was not even addressed in the article. Oden has not been able to consistently stay out of foul trouble. If there's one thing he needs to work on this summer, that's it. His footwork would be a close second.
Oden is NOT a bust, and within the next 2 years, I expect to see him continue to develop into one of the best centers in the NBA, lazy wannabe sportswriters aside. Meanwhile, Kevin Durant is still rated as the worst defensive player in the NBA.
NSE Replies-Number one: I didn’t say that Oden had Progeria. I said he looks like he has Progeria. There is a big difference there. Notice the nuance???
Second, guys who are not busts play more than 21 minutes per game. That’s just a fact. Guys who are busts get out of position on defense and end up in foul trouble early so they play limited minutes, which in Oden's case is a blessing. If he had to play much more than that, he would likely get hurt again and the 'Blazers would be out even more money. So, you pretty much prove my point there.
Third, you’re giving Oden credit for staying injury free for half a season??? Really??? Give me a break!!!
As much as I dislike Kobe Bryant, he just spent the last two years playing more basketball than anyone on the planet, (with the possible exception of Pau Gasol), and he did it injury free. He played the entire 2007-2008 season and played the playoffs all the way through the finals. He then practiced for and played in every game that the U.S. team had in the 2008 Summer Olympics. He followed that up by playing the 2008-2009 season all the way through and playing in the play offs all the way through the finals. As far as I know, Kobe is still somewhere playing basketball. Add to that the fact that he is ten years older than Oden and has well over 1000 NBA games under his belt. That’s compared with the 67 games that Oden has been able to play in at all. Don’t even get me started on the difference in minutes played.
Fourth, I am no one’s ‘journalist”. I make observations on a blog site. But if you really, really are a stickler for research, look here:
and here:
You’ll notice that for the 2008-2009 season that Oden is ranked 34th in efficiency among NBA centers.
There are only 31 teams in the NBA, so that means that there are 3 back up centers that are more effective on the floor than Oden is.
You’ll also notice that out of the fourteen games in which he did manage to play more than 25 minutes, that he lost his head to head match up six times and the ‘Blazers lost five of those fourteen games. The head to head match ups that he did win were with the following players: Sam Dalembert, Emika Okafor, (another bust), Deandre Jordan, Jermaine O’neal, (who might have rigor mortis), Rasheed Wallace, (older than dirt head case), Kendrick Perkins, Andray Blatche, (who?) and Anderson Varejao, (a notorious flopper, who will spend 2009-2010 behind Shaq, if he isn’t headed out of Cleveland).
With a non-existent rookie year and a sophomore campaign in which these are the only guys that he got the better of, (when he did play more than 25 minutes), how can you possibly tell me to do more research and then make the argument that Oden was a force of any kind???.
Lastly, if Oden was going to be the type of dominant big man that he was projected to be; don’t you think that we’d have seen a few flashes of that by now??? I have yet to see Oden do anything in the NBA that lives up to the hype that surrounded him coming out of college, so I stand my analysis. He’s a bust…..at least for the time being. If he comes around, I will be the first to tip my hat to him and sing his praises, but for the mean time, he has been a monumental waste of money for the Trail Blazers.
I think that you might have Greg Oden confused with Brandon Roy. Roy is the player that is on the Portland roster that is a force and a game changer.
Oh…and please find me someone that shares your opinion of Kevin Durant…who even if he doesn’t play a whit of defense, still manages to stay on the floor and puts up 16 more points per game than Oden.
LOL says: Yao Ming hasn't dominated anyone eh? Please, for the love of god check out the career head to head match ups of Dwight (the supposed best center in the NBA) vs Yao and make that statement one more time you useless F***.
haha says: Yao isn't a dominant player? please show that you do have some basketball knowledge. Yao ming is easily one of the top 3 centers in the game at the moment at the very least. thats why portland spent forever fronting and doubling, Oden was stupid enough to think he could take Yao one on one
NSE replies: I really can’t believe that I am responding to these two people, but here it goes:
Yes, LOL…you are completely correct. I am a useless F***. Otherwise, I would be doing my real job, instead of bandying words over the internet with people who refer to their selves as LOL and haha.
I’m going to go ahead and assume that LOL and haha are the names that you prefer to go by. I’m hoping that it this not due to reactions that members of the opposite sex might have had during intimate moments. LOL. haha .
Now, I’ll address your concerns regarding my comment about Yao Ming.
LOL. you are correct again…Yao Ming outscored and out rebounded Dwight, (the supposed best center in the league), Howard during their one match up in the 2008-2009 season. Whoopee!!!! Let’s all form a Yao Ming admiration society!!!!
haha, you are also correct, Yao Ming is one of the top three centers in the game today.
The problem with both of your suppositions is that all the centers in the game these days suck. Don’t believe me??? Take a look at the names on this list:
Do you see anyone on there that you expect to see on the NBA’s best of the next fifty years list??? With the exception of Tim Duncan, who is actually a forward and Shaq, I don’t think so. The NBA is simply making the best of a terrible situation when it comes to effectual centers these days.
If Dwight Howard learns a couple of low post moves, learns to shoot free throws and develops a game away from the hoop, then he might have a chance to get on that list.
I do give Yao his due when it comes to his offensive game. He can score when he isn’t busy kicking the ball out to Tracy McGrady, so that T-Mac can take an ill advised three point shot. Yao is also the best passing center in the game today. My problem with Yao is the fact that he is 7-6, 310 pounds and instead of using his muscle and superior height to his advantage and battling in the low post, then taking the dunk or lay in, which would completely demoralize anyone that had to play against him, he would rather take the fall away jumper, or pass to someone else. Why would a man with his size play that way???
The other part of this, is the fact that Yao has never averaged more than two blocks per game. How is it that Yao is consistently the biggest man on the floor and he can’t get more than two blocks a game??? Yao Ming should be the no ifs and or buts hard core, kick ass big man for this era of basketball, but he is not. He’s a huge guy that plays a finesse game and has people like LOL and haha sticking up for him.……poor guy.
BA says: Bill, please re-read your story before printing it next time. This effort is an offense to your profession.
NSE replies: OK….went back and re-read it. It made all of the points that I wanted it to make. Oden...bust. Oden and others like him...wastes of money. Yao....plays soft. Yep, covered them all.
I will admit that I exaggerated a little about the members of our armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan not being able to feed their families. The point was that those folks who are working in the service of our country deserve that money more than any of the busts that are guaranteed mega-bucks for not being able to deliver the goods.
But an offense to my profession….come on, that’s a little harsh..... I mean…my feelings are really hurt here….. I am about to go into the bathroom at my job, (no this isn’t my profession), and have a good cry….people like you shouldn’t be allowed to leave comments…..you’re too mean….I promise that from now on, I’ll forward my copy to you for proof reading to make sure that it doesn’t offend anyone….especially you, Don, haha, 1 of the 7 and my profession.
Random Thoughts on Game 4
Todd says: Kevin Pittsnogle is not a goon you dumbass... you are an idiot.
NSE replies: Where is Kevin Pittsnogle now??? He ain’t playing in the NBA. In fact, he is probably the only big man that I’ve seen receive All-America honors and not be drafted…..And in the NBA, that’s saying something. We’re talking about a league that drafted Greg Oden number one over all.
Again, I have to address a person that can’t read the print in front of their eyes. I didn’t say that Kevin Pittsnogle was a goon. I said that Lamar Odom didn’t have enough sugar on the day of Game 4 and he was gooning around on the floor like Kevin Pittsnogle.
If you go back and watch some of those WVU games from 2004-2006, what you’ll see on a pretty regular basis is Pittsnogle standing around at the top of the key with his hands crossed over his junk, like a goon bouncer at a velvet rope. He was waiting for someone to dribble past him, so that he could set the high screen or to receive a pass, so that he could take the shot for the three. That was Pittsnogle's game.
However, by all accounts that I’ve read, Pittsnogle is one hell of a guy, a great friend and a terrific bowler. OK, I made the bowler thing up.
Now, if you are a friend of Pittsnogle and I offended your or his tender sensibilities, then I apologize.
However, if you are just someone that feels the need to disagree and call other people names, then I urge you to take Les Grossman's advice to the Flaming Dragon in "Tropic Thunder". You can find it on You Tube if you don't know what it is.

Rock says: Nice job you are doing. I am dying while reading comments from backwoods jackasses who don't get your sense of humor. Keep up the good work.
I'll be recommending your stuff to all my jock friends. They'll really like your stuff. Hell, what's not to love?
NSE says: What, another fan??? Well, bend over backwards and kiss my own rosy red rear end. The cosmos is completely skewed.
OK folks, I don’t mind being called an idiot, moron, dumb ass, or anything else that you have in your little word arsenals. It comes with the territory. But, for the love of God before you post snide little comments about me, please do your research and while you’re at it, read my bio….wait, I’ll save you the trouble of looking for it. I’ll just paste it here:
Bill was born in a state of confusion. His thoughts have been muddled and in disarray since he was able to articulate them. Just ask his father. After a mediocre public school education that took place in multiple US cities and abroad, Bill tested the waters at college and promptly found himself to be overwhelmed with wine, women, song and other recreational distractions. His lack of ability to concentrate on his studies landed him in the United States Navy, where he spent the next 23 years trying to figure out how he had gotten there to begin with. Along the way, Bill decided that he was funny and that he loved sports. So, he became an Examiner contributor, because no other entity would let him publish this tripe, which is never to be taken seriously. Bill is now a regional sales manager for a communications company in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
So please, if you are going to leave a comment, and you do feel the need to point something out about my intelligence, personality, etc, do me a favor and point out something that I don’t already know. I know that I’m an idiot, a dumb ass and a moron. I’ve known it for years.
Have a great day everyone!!!!
