Today I would like to write about an important event happening downtown this Thursday that hits close to the national legislative home these days in regards to providing healthcare to those living without it. Specifically, there are numerous artists in the Nashville area that are going about their daily creative grind and journeys uninsured. Thank goodness they can count on more than elected officials' votes in this time of need. Thank goodness they have ARTDOCS NASHVILLE.
ARTDOCS NASHVILLE, Artists Receiving Treatment Doctors Offering Crucial Services, is a newly formed 501 c3 nonprofit organization that offers no-cost medical services for artists without health insurance. To formally introduce themselves to the Nashville scene, ARTDOCS is holding their first annual Urban Arts Bizarre filled with live music, food, wine and beer, the Nashville Rollergirls, Dr. Sketchy’s Anti Art School, fire dancers, Playing by Air’s juggling and circus acts, love works by Graffiti artist Ragoe, Spinderella’s Hula Hoop Extravaganza, Miss Lolly Pop’s Burlesque Coterie and Bizarre and art-filled events. This Thursday, October 15th, from 6-9pm, on Fifth Avenue and in the Arcade, The Arts Company, The Rymer Gallery and Tinney Contemporary will be hosting this shindig along with the Arcade Galleries comprised of The Showroom Gallery, Blend Studio, Le Quire Annex, Plowhaus, Marleen De Bock, Twist and MIR galleries. With so many quality people and names involved, you know that this event and night will be worth recording latest The Office episode for a later date.
On top of all the Bizarre events scheduled above, and random ones I don’t even know about yet, ARTDOCS will also put together a silent auction where you can bid on works of art, instruments and music lessons by Willie Nelson’s harmonica player Mickey Raphael and G. Love’s Jeffrey Clemens among other things. All of the proceeds from the auction will benefit ARTDOCS alongside ten percent of all gallery sales that evening as well. There is a $10 wristband available for purchase on Thursday atThe Arcade’s entrance that will grant you admission to the entire event and all of its benefits for the sake of local artists without healthcare coverage to benefit. Remember, it takes a village, people.
