Despite the let down of the holidays and an influx of bills, January is still a popular time to book a vacation. Scientists have actually documented January 24th as the most depressing day of the year. As a result, it also tends to be a peak time for beginning of the year travel bookings.
But don't wait until January 24th, major airline carriers are offering New Year sales and rock-bottom pricing.
My New Year's travel resolutions are to look closer to home for travel deals and take advantage of nearby cities and towns that I've rarely visited. Boston is on the top of my list and after digging around, I found a $64 fare (plus tax) from JFK to Florida on JetBlue.com. Bolt Bus is a cheaper option at $1 a pop, though seats and times are restricted.
Also in the fare news, United Airlines just announced their own New Years sale with round-trip fares starting at $99, and Continental Airlines fares are offering $39 one-way tickets.
And remember that tonight is the last chance for the American Airlines Mexico Airfare Sale with flights starting at $77+each-way to Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, and Cozumel. Purchase your ticket by 12:59 PM (EST) tonight for travel through February 26, 2009 and a return by March 2, 2009.
