It's rare to see any travel deal worth talking about these days. Most involve enough hidden fees to negate any real savings. Or it only amounts to a free pizza and movie at check-in. Others have so many black-out dates, you're lucky to find any date worth booking until 2010.
But recently an offer from Leading Hotels of the World caught my eye. In an effort to promote their worlwide luxury hotels, they're offering rooms in dozens of cities for a mere $19.28. That includes Europe and its crushing pound system. Pre-register now, then log in at 8am EDT on October 1st to access a limited amount of luxury rooms around the world.
The offer expires at approximately 9:20am and is good for 2-nights maximum booking. Prepare yourself by identifying which hotel you want in advance and have your credit card handy. My guess is each hotel has an extremely limited amount of rooms available at this discounted rate. I would imagine travel agents and booking sharks will be circling the site and ready to pounce.
A listing of worldwide hotels are available at their website. For US travelers, consider the following participants:
Enchantment Resort & Mii amo Spa (Sedona, Arizona)
Bernardus Lodge (Carmel Valley, California)
The Hay-Adams (Washington, DC)
Biltmore (Coral Gables, Florida)
The James Chicago (Chicago, Illinois)
Wheatleigh (Lenox, Massachusetts)
La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa, A Rock Resort (Santa Fe, New Mexico)
The Alex Hotel (New York, New York)
Even if you're not looking for a weekend getaway, consider purchasing the $19.28 room for a friend or loved one who needs a night out on the town. I might look into the Alex Hotel in New York for myself.
What can you get for under $20 in New York these days? One lunch without an appetizer and maybe a drink, a round of beers for your 3 friends, a limited Metro Card, breakfast for two at a local bakery, a new book... And apparently a room at The Alex Hotel.
