I had the unfortunate opportunity to work on NYE, but luckily enough, by the time I got off, Woodfire Grill was still taking reservations. I made my way as fast as I could to Buckhead and into the small drive in front of the restaurant.
Woodfire was serving up a three and five course menu on New Year's Eve, my dinner partner and I chose the three course meal. For $45 a person we got to choose our three courses from a list of nine options.
I had the Lobster and Scallops appetizer, the Rib eye entree, and the Sour Cream Cheesecake for dessert. My companion had the Ravioli, Pompano, and Trio of Chocolate. The overall meal was delicious. This was my first time to Woodfire and I am glad to say I was impressed with the food.
There were highlights in every course. The scallops were smooth and covered in a creme fraiche sauce. Random granules of Kosher salt sparked in my mouth with every bite. A lobster bisque was served along side the seafood; it was smooth and had just a bite of nutmeg.
The Pompano was tender and shared the same type of salt seasoning found in my appetizer. The beef entree was delicate and not overwhelming like some beef dishes. The rib eye was cooked to a perfect medium rare.
The desserts were both interesting and delicious. The sour cream cheesecake was placed on top of a cranberry gelee. It gave the soft cheesecake a welcomed tangy bite. The chocolate trio payed homage to three different countries. Each part had a different percentage of cacao, which in turn gave each dessert a completely different taste. The ice cream sandwich was my favorite. The outer crust was made from various nuts and chocolates, it was crispy and had a similar texture to granola.
The restaurant gave complimentary champagne toasts at the New Year as well as a plethora of New Year's Eve party favors, including beads, hats, and of course, noise makers. Each guest was also sent home with a morning after kit, including a couple of pastries, and for the real hardcore, Bloody Mary mix.
Woodfire Grill is open Monday-Saturday and starts serving dinner at 5:30 p.m. For reservations call: 404-347-9055.
