Ria's Bluebird has been deemed best pancakes by many reviewers

Let's start where real brunch is measured, the coffee.

I sat down at the bar with my parents a couple Sundays ago to enjoy a well deserved reward after a long weekend of working.

My parents worked a show and I was thrown to the wolves at my job for the weekend. We took our seats joyfully, despite the hectic work schedule we were overcoming.

The first word across all our lips when asked what we would like to drink...."Coffee," we each muttered in deep desperation for the old world antidote to our new world drowsiness.

As soon as my lips touched the hot brown surface, I was elated. The blend at Ria's is enough to have me come back again and again. Of course, the food wasn't bad either.

I spotted the special from outside before we were seated. Written on the window in glass chalk were words destined to be manifested onto my plate, "Lemon Ricotta Pancakes."  I was sold and didn't even glance at the menu when we sat down. My parents negotiated in true couple format over which plate they would get. I sat hunched over my cup of coffee listening to their debate, smiling at my perfect blend.

Finally, they resolved to the specials the waitress offered and I placed my order for the pancakes, Lemon Ricotta pancakes with Blueberry compote, I almost shivered saying it. It sounded so naughty and even looked so, staring me down provocatively from behind a glass window, like a muse on display.

Not long after I was through my first cup of coffee, my muse arrived, fashionably draped in Blueberry compote. I handed off the maple syrup to my father and cut into the creamy pancakes. After a long dip in the blueberry sauce, I lifted the first bite to my mouth. The lemon ricotta gave the pancakes a smooth silky texture and a refreshing bite of citrus. The ingredients were all fresh. I wasn't sure, but would guess the ricotta was made in-house. I had a little trouble finishing my plate, but I managed.

This weekend is my mom's birthday, and her only request, "Can we go to Ria's." See you there.
