After reading all about Serenbe farms last year I was all set to book a Memorial Day getaway, complete with a stay at the Inn and dinner at the on site restaurants, but my plans changed and I never made it out there, until today.
I'm sitting in The Blue Eyed Daisy in the eerily quiet community of Serenbe in Palmetto Georgia. If it weren't for the iPhone, I would have never found this place, but luckily, here I am.
I came hungry and quickly found what appears to be the only restaurant open on weekdays. After scanning through the menu I finally picked the Nicoise Salad Wrap. The light wrap comes with tuna, hard boiled eggs, capers, lettuce, tomatoes, lemon vinaigrette and kalamata olives, and it is very delicious. All the complex flavors layer together perfectly. The saltiness of the olives and capers balance well with the hearty tuna chunks and tangy vinaigrette.
I hate to admit, there is not much else to do on a Tuesday afternoon except eat at this restaurant and wander through the empty community, but they make up for it on the weekends.
Every Saturday from 8am-noon, Serenbe's Organic Farms hosts a Farmer's Market open to the public. Just a short drive puts you back in touch with fresh fruits and vegetables from clean Georgia soil.
Also, for those who can't make it out of the city, Serenbe offers to bring the farm to you. Through their Community Supported Agriculture program, for a small monthly fee, Serenbe Farms will provide you with a box full of fresh vegetables and fruit straight from the farm, available for pick up from the farm or Via Elise in Atlanta.
