Brunch at Murphy's is the most coveted brunch location in Atlanta. It's been voted best brunch in Atlanta for five or more years in a row depending on the survey. So, when I first moved here it was natural for me to trust the surveys and publications pointing the way to Murphy's, and I was not disappointed.

First, let me a give those who have never gone a few pointers:

One, Murphy's does NOT take reservations for brunch, so if you come between 11:30am and 1:00pm, the wait is usually very long and it's really crowded, so, be prepared.

Two, because of the crowds special orders are not taken, unless it has to do with a food allergy. Otherwise, special requests like extra crispy hash browns will be denied.

Three: Be prepared to be very close with diners not in your party. Typically the seating at Murphy's is more open and less claustrophobic, but at brunch you may find yourself making conversation with new people due to the proximity.

That being said, I have to applaud all the surveys who have endorsed this restaurant for brunch. The food was very very good. Our waiter was running on caffeine and the energy from the crowd. He was alive and ready to make jokes and conversation but you could see how much work it is for the staff to accommodate such a large brunch crowd. He said that Murphy's gets over 1200 people on a Sunday during brunch, but that's just an average. 1200 people in restaurant that only, by Fire Marshall rules,  allows between 150-200 people at a time, makes for a long day.

Every table is served a fresh basket of breads and muffins from the bakery in the restaurant. They are piping hot and delicious. The menu is a typical brunch menu, but the atmosphere and freshness of each item is what sets this restaurant apart from the others. Two of my favorite parts of the restaurant are the fresh baked goods and the Batdorf & Bronson roast coffee. If you can't stand the wait at least head over to the bakery counter and get a few items along with a hot cup of coffee and call it a morning. You can't go wrong with Murphy's, just have patience when you go for brunch.
