My sister and her husband spent over ten years of their lives in Africa.

They had quite a kick-start when they arrived.

I'm sparing a lot of details, but I think you may find this interesting:

Caryn and Jeff arrived the country's airport a full day ahead
of schedule.  After obtaining their baggage with the
help of "John," one of the "porters" (believe me, I'm not
being sarcastic), Caryn and Jeff found themselves sitting
on a curb in front of the airport.

Jeff is a fantastic artist.  With nothing to do, he pulled out a pencil and notepad and began sketching some people
who were nearby.  This attracted a small crowd.  Eventually, there were about thirty people congregating to observe this American artist.

A national appeared to my sister's side and said, in perfect
english, "Hello!  My name is David. You will preach to these
people and I will translate."

My sister was not sure if this was something God wanted her to
do.  In short, she asked David to speak to the porter who
assisted them.  Caryn wanted to know if this porter would allow her
to pray for him.  Permission was granted.

Caryn placed her hand on John the porter and began to pray.
She open with one sentence and waited for David to interpret for
her.  She waited...and waited.  Eventually, she just prayed for
John.  She concluded her prayer and observed tears falling from
John's face.  He began to speak to her in his native Portuguese
language.

Caryn turned to David with some anxiety and said, "Please tell him
I do not understand what he is saying.  I do not know Portuguese."

David replied with a smile, "Ma'am, my friend is pursuaded that you
do speak his language.  For your prayer was spoken in perfect
Portuguese."

Just then, another national stepped forward and said something
with excitement.

"He said, 'You will not now pray for me!'"

My sister prayed for no less than ten people in the same
fashion.  If I said what happened next was made up, I'd be lying...

When Caryn looked up from her prayers, "David" was no where to be seen.

Given my background, I would normally scoff, cough, and dismiss this
story.  But, this is my sister here.  I have always known her to be a
person of integrity.  This story has been dormant for many years.

Caryn and Jeff spent the next decade serving the orphaned in that
country (I'm proud of you guys).

Acts 2:6-13

The last article will catch up where we left off.  Let's just pick up
the baton...

Their speech was heard...
The last article stated clearly that many Jews residing in all corners
of the globe were in town.  All were listening to this small
group talk about the wonderful works of God in the language of the
country where they lived.  If a resident of Egypt, then that Jew heard
the Egyptian language.  If from Rome, then it was Italian.  If from Japan,
then Japanese was heard.  What was facinating about all of this is that
the ones speaking NEVER studied these languages.  They were just enabled
by God to be heard in different languages.

...and confused them v.6

...and displaced them v.7,12

...and captivated them v.7

...and lost them ('doubt') v.12
They were entirely at a loss; in perplexity

...and scared (some) of them v.13
"I say these folks are drunk!"

Along with this allegation, others were saying,
"What does all of this mean?"

Then...a humble fisherman steps forward.

See you next time.
