In his first season back Dario Franchitti was able to overcome his competitors earlier this week in one of the closes and most exciting racing seires to date to win the 2009 IndyCar championship.

"2009 was a fantastic year," Franchitti stated. "Five wins for both Scott Dixon and I, and finishing one-two in the championship for Team Target is a true team achievement, and it would not have been possible without the support of our partners."

"I didn't think I'd win five races and a championship in my first year back," Franchitti said. "I knew driving for Team Target I'd have good equipment. (It was) just a question of could I get back into it and compete at a level that I had already because Scott is a better driver than he was in '07 and Ryan came in every single week, as well as other people who made appearances and won races. It just seemed that Scott and Ryan every week were tough competition."

Congratulations to Dario, Scott and the Target Chip Ganassi team for a great finish to the Indy Series championship.
