According to the calendar, March 20th is the first day of spring. Depending where you live, that may or may not be true. Where my mom lives (New Brunswick, Canada) there is still several inches of snow on the ground. Where my friend lives (North Carolina), the daffodils came up through the snow in February! Here in Michigan we are finally enjoying a few days of above 60-degree weather. So March 20 is a purely arbitrary date.
But that doesn't mean we can't celebrate in quilterly style by making a fresh, pretty springtime quilt. Spring doesn't have to mean all bunnies and pastels either. Crocuses are vivid purple and yellow, and the song birds that are gathering this time of year are every shade of the rainbow. So don't limit yourself.
Here is a selection of pretty quilts that evoked spring to me. Where possible I've listed the name of the pattern or the maker so you can make your own interpretation. As for the others, use them for inspiration or just admire them.
I love this appliquéd flower and the bamboo borders.
I just love this table runner with the asymmetrical triangles. I love the gentle green color too, not to mention the gorgeous flowers behind it.
This sweet little bunny with bleeding heart plant would make a sweet wall hanging for an entryway.
This tiny block is from a miniature quilt done in 1930s prints. Follow the link to Flickr and you'll see that each tiny triangle is only as big as an M&M! It's way too intricate for me to tackle, but the colors are lovely and springy.
I hope these pretty quilts inspire you to make some of your own!
Happy Spring!
