The second week of March was National Procrastination Week according to the Procrastinator's Club of America. I'm not actually late posting this - I just forgot in the hubbub of getting ready for my quilt retreat.

Do you procrastinate with your quilting? Do you put off organizing and cleaning your sewing room? Tidying your stash? Finishing your quilts so that you end up with stacks of UFOs (Unfinished Objects)? Join the club!

I counted all the UFOs I can remember starting. I came up with more than 35 without looking in my closet and without thinking very hard! Some of these date back to the late 1990s when I first started quilting. There are block-of-the-month quilts, round robin quilts, fabric exchange quilts, block exchange quilts, quilts from classes, and quilts I started making for people then just stopped working on for one reason or another.

If you need inspiration to stop procrastinating and finish your UFOs try a UFO challenge. My guild is doing one this year and it would work for your quilt group too - no matter what size. I can't take credit for this idea, but I do think it's a good one.

Our programs coordinator divided our guild up into equally-sized groups. Each month at show and tell we each get one prize entry for each completed UFO we bring in. They do a prize drawing and give away a prize for every 25 UFOs completed among the group as a whole. (We have about 170 people.) I believe there is a special prize for the team with the most completed UFOs at the end of the year.

If you have a smaller group, you could just base it on the number of UFOs completed by individuals or have smaller teams of two or three people. Either way you're sure to have fun and get a lot of UFOs done!

So stop procrastinating and get quilting!

Kelly
