Denver has never been known for its comic book conventions, but ComicFest 2009 is aiming to change that. ComicFest 2009 is part of StarFest 2009, but is held in a different hotel so you don’t have to worry about comics and Star Trek competing for space. This is the inaugural year for ComicFest, and they have quite a bit lined up for comic fans.
ComicFest features several panels discussing how to break into the comic book industry and how to write a story. DC and Marvel artist, Armando Durruthy will also be at ComicFest to critique aspiring artists’ portfolios. One of the biggest draws of ComicFest 2009 is the implementation of teleconferencing panels. This will allow fans to hear directly from their favorite artists and writers from DC and Marvel who usually are only available for the high profile conventions in New York and San Diego.
Of course there will be plenty to do for those who just love reading comics. Booths will be set up where people can scrounge for back-issues and buy memorabilia, artists will be available for sketches, and of course there will be many comic fans to meet and befriend. If all goes well, ComicFest could become an annual blessing for all Denver comic book fans. See more information at the ComicFest2009 site.
