This past Monday, Nintendo snuck a game into their WiiWare lineup. The surprising thing about that action was how shockingly good and ...different this game was from what you'd expect from a Nintendo game. In fact, this is probably one of the best games from Nintendo on the Wii in months.
This sublime puzzle game is actually a remake from their Bit Generations series originally found on the Game Boy Advance, but was never released in the US. And that's a good thing for Wii owners cause the upgrade in technology makes this simple game a lot more alluring. Players control a planet by using two buttons to affect the gravity and anti-gravity to pull yourself to orbiting stars. The goal is to become big enough to bring a sun into your own solar system for 50 stages.
Very high concept stuff indeed. In fact, you're probably going to be frustrated as the gravity mechanics don't work the way you think it does. But, the execution is wonderfully simple. It only uses two buttons for gravity and anti-gravity, which makes this 50-stage challenge a lot more enjoyable and tolerable.
The simplistic design is also apparent in the graphics, which aren't gonna make 360 owners jealous, but it is pretty enough in a low-key manner, which goes along well with it's huanting sound.
This is one of the best games on the Wii-it's pretty, challenging, cheap...and not overbearing or overhyped. A very solid game that doesn't exist to be anything more than a good game. Definitely the WiiWare's killer app.
