UPDATE: Earlier I wrote that an article from OK! Magazine has reported that actress, activist, and sex symbol Angelina Jolie has been using Wii Fit to get in shape. Turns out the game, Let's Pilates, is a Nintendo DS game and has nothing to do with the Wii. But it's still a coup for Nintendo's blue ocean strategy and my thoughts in the closing paragraph hasn't changed.
The Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 may be the top consoles for hardcore gamers, allegedly. But the Nintendo Wii may be the a more popular console. Any one who caught the latest episode of HBO's 'True Blood' caught a scene where two vampires talked about playing the Wii. Not a real important scene, but it just goes to show the Wii's increasing popular influence.
And not only that, Angelina Jolie, activist and actor, has been reported as being a big fan of Wii Fit. In an article with OK! Magazine, Jolie reportedly has been playing the Let's Pilates on the DS three times a week for an hour. Here's the article right here: Angelina Jolie's secret: Wii Fit.
Now, while 360 and PS3 have games full of HD goodness and incredible gun action, they're never too busy to crap on the Wii's graphics and the lack of hardcore games, allegedly. But you don't usually hear about how Angelina Jolie went on a frenzy in Gears of War 2. You don't hear a lot of stories about how Brad Pitt gets down in Resistance.
Memo to all 360 and PS3 owners: quit shouting about how much more your systems are for hardcore gaming. That's not stopping the Wii from wiping the floor with both systems each month when it comes to sales. It's not about who has the most most hardcore games, it's about which is the better and more popular system. And don't say sales don't matter because everyone who bought Gears of War 2 is undoubtedly gonna talk how awesome it is and how it's the number one game in the country (I'm not stupid, it's gonna sell a bazillion copies this month). But video games can get better if the audiences get bigger and more diverse.
Also, don't give me a bunch of crap about T and A in video games, like I got earlier this week just because I'm writing about Angelina Jolie. She just happens to be a beautiful woman who's playing video games. Big deal-it's not hurting the industry's image. Maybe if guys didn't buy a bunch of first person shooters on command, we wouldn't be seen as so immature.
