Sephora's Multi-Purpose Sponge is one of the nicest applicators I've ever used.

Its ergonomic shape makes it easy to use; it fits in your hand nicely and is much easier to control than wedge shaped sponges. The material is anti-bacterial and washable, and I can tell you from personal experience that it washes clean very easily with soap and hot water.

I've always preferred sponges for applying and blending concealers,  highlight and contour, (both powders and creme form) foundations and blush. I'm a big fan of any kind of applicator that keeps your hands and fingers away from your skin. Hand-to-face contact can create many problems; cross-contamination of your make-up container, for one thing, and it's a good way to introduce germs and bacteria to sensitive mucous membranes. Also, if you're applying your foundation with your fingertips, you could be pushing the product into your skin instead of smoothing it over the surface, which can cause problems for sensitive or acne-prone skin. Plus, and just as importantly, your fingers can't get the smooth finish that a brush or sponge applicator can.

Having used this sponge for a week or so, I can say that I really like it. I've tried it with all types of foundations; creme, liquid and dual-use. (powdered wet-or-dry compact) I've used it to blend blush, both powder and creme, and to blend eye shadow. I did find it a little awkward to use on eye shadow, but it's very useful to blend at the corners of the eye.

I like the shape a lot. The smaller end is perfect for under-eye concealer and foundation, and the broader end works well for sweeping over cheeks and foreheads. I also like the color. One of the things I've always disliked about wedge sponges is how quickly they become icky and discolored. Also, most sponges are designed to be disposable. The Sephora Multi-Purpose sponge is a re-usable applicator that is designed to be washed and re-used without pitting and degrading like other products have for me in the past.

The price is quite reasonable, though a little higher than a disposable product. $6 at Sephora stores and online.

Worth noting: Sephora also has sponges in other shapes in the same material, if you prefer round instead of the egg shape!
