The Italian news agencies reported on Thursday, October 22 that a man from the village of Villabate (just outside the Sicilian capital of Palermo) tried to get back into jail after being released from prison to house arrest.

Italian man escapes wife and asks to be put back in jail.

Santo Gambino (aged 30) apparently could not take the arguments at home with his wife and asked to be put back in prison.  Gambino had served time for dumping hazardous waste before being relegated to house arrest.

Gambino showed up at the police station and asked to be locked up.  He claimed he could not stand it anymore and was tired of arguing with his wife who accused him of failing to make child support payments.  The unsympathetic judge immediately ordered Gambino back home to settle things with his wife.  The police also charged Gambino with violating the conditions of his sentence and sent him back home.
