Did you know?
According to Wikipedia, at least 55 million tons of apples were grown worldwide in 2005, with a value of around $10 billion. China produced about 35% of this total. The United States is the second leading producer, with more than 7.5% of the world production. Turkey, France, Italy, and Iran are also among the leading apple exporters.
In Italy, Autumn is a great time for apples and recipes based on apples. Many types of apples are grown in Northern Italy: the Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Stayman, Empire, Annurca, the Renetta, the delicious Stark, the Golden and many others. A variety of colors and tastes await you: Red, yellow or green, sweet, sour, succulent or grainy, depending on the variety.
Perhaps the most traditional and basic recipe for apples is “Baked Apples.” There is nothing better than a pan of aromatic baked apples from a wood burning oven! However, you can still make a wonderful batch of baked apples in your kitchen oven at home:
Italian Stuffed Baked apples
65 Minutes, Easy, 4 People, Average difficulty
Ingredients:
4 apples
1 ½ oz dry cookies (like amaretti)
4 tablespoons of apricot jam
1 ½ oz hazelnuts chopped
1 ½ oz of sugar (sucrose)
1 ½ T of raisins
4 tablespoons of Rum
Preperation:
Preheat the oven to 350 ° F. In the meantime clean apples and remove the central part with the appropriate utensil or knife. Pay attention to not puncture all the way through. Remove 3/4 of the core.
In the meantime, mix the raisins with the Rum and, in a separate bowl, mix the sugar with the hazelnuts and crushed cookies. When the raisins have absorbed the Rum, add them to the mixture of cookies and hazelnuts.
Then fill the cavity of the apples and seal it with a tablespoon of jam or marmalade. Arrange apples in a Pyrex pan and bake in the middle of the oven for approximately 30 minutes. During cooking, baste the apples with the liquid that forms in the bottom of the pan
Buon appetito!
