The Disney Channel's "Phineas and Ferb"

While on a recent trip to Las Vegas to visit friends, I found myself with a few hours to kill before boarding my flight back to Pittsburgh. As I sat on the patio basking in the warm Southwestern sun, my friend's 8 year old daughter, Kaitlyn, asked me if I wanted to watch TV with her.

"Sure", I replied, before even wondering what I'd gotten myself into.

Kaitlyn told me that we were going to watch Lizzie McGuire.

Uh oh. That I was not looking forward to.

However, before Hillary Duff made her appearance on the DVR, I was treated to the cartoon antics of Phineas and Ferb!

Following the exploits of stepbrothers Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher, the show revolves around the two attempting to stave off boredom in the suburbs during summer vacation. Each episode eventually brings them hilariously into conflict with their big sister, the teen aged Candace. Meanwhile, their pet platypus, Perry, secretly masquerades as "Agent P", continually thwarting the nefarious activities of his arch nemesis, Heinz Doofenshmirtz. Usually, the episode ends with both the boys' and the platypus' stories coming together to wipe away the evidence of whatever the boys have been up to, making Candace appear to be nothing short of insane to her parents.

Phineas and Ferb found its' original broadcast as a preview back in August of 2007 before being greenlit as a regular series in 2008. Created by Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh, Phineas and Ferb is best known for sight gags, clever dialogue and Emmy nominated songs that move the action along at a breakneck pace.

Phineas and Ferb is a delight that appeals to both children and adults alike. In fact, over the Halloween weekend, a friend of mine and I were set to watch as much scary programming as possible jammed into the limited time we had. At one point, I remarked that I had to show her Phineas and Ferb and, as I scrolled through the listings, it was set to come on in a few minutes. (Now how serendipitous is that?) Thankfully, the episode, "One Good Scare Ought To Do It" was featured, thus satisfying the horror requirements for Halloween!

It is often said that "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas". However, this little gem was too good to keep hidden from everyone.

Thanks, Kaitlyn, for reminding me to think young again!
